A Three-Day Experiential Introduction to Auroville
Three days that can change your relationship with work and with Auroville itself. Whether you’re discovering it for the first time or considering making it your life, you’ll work alongside Aurovilians, meet the vision behind the city, and find where you stand in it.
For visitors, volunteers, newcomers, and seekers
The Offering & The Need
A Doorway into Auroville
What Awaits You
A guided journey into Auroville’s vision, The Mother’s Dream, and the lived practice of Karmayoga, where work itself becomes a spiritual path.
You’ll sit with long-time Aurovilians, serve with your hands in gardens and kitchens, and reflect in circles, meeting Auroville not as a visitor but as a participant in a living experiment.
Why It Matters
Perhaps you’ve arrived in Auroville with curiosity, idealism, or a quest, and sensed there’s something beneath the surface you haven’t yet touched.
This programme is the doorway: three days to meet the consciousness behind Auroville’s outer forms, and to discover what it might ask of you.
For Those Yearning for a Deeper Life

No prior knowledge of Sri Aurobindo, The Mother, or Auroville is needed.

The Big Picture
Auroville’s place in human evolution and the Integral Yoga — the bigger picture that holds it all.
The Three-Day Journey
From the Dream to Your Offering
The days build on each other: first the Vision that called a city into being, then the spirit of Work that sustains it, and finally the discovery of your own place within it.
Each day is anchored in one of Auroville’s founding texts.
- Welcome, opening circle & shared norms
- Building a Dream world: Symptoms ← Systems ← Source
- Karmayoga at the Solar Kitchen
- A unit visit — the vision in practice
- A meditative walk through the forest or play
- Morning Shramdaan — the flower mandala
- A panel of Aurovilians on their adventure
- A unit visit — the vision in practice
- Karmayoga at Eco-Service
- Karmayoga in the Matrimandir Gardens
- Painting your soul with Savitri
- Awareness Through the Body
- Your Swadharma — what will you serve?
- A Sacred closing circle, gratitude & blessings
Each day carries the same rhythm: an opening meditation, a contemplation on a founding text, an encounter with an Aurovilian or a unit, a Karmayoga practice, time for reflection, and an evening experience.
This is a working shape, not a fixed timetable. The final flow may shift a little.

When, Where & How
Arrange Your Own Accommodation & Transport
As this is a non-residential programme, you’ll need your own place to stay and a way to move between venues across Auroville for the three days.
August is a busy season in Auroville, and accommodation can be difficult to arrange at short notice. Please make your bookings as early as possible; we recommend doing so at least one month in advance.
We’re glad to point you in the right direction: for accommodation, Centre Guest House, Serendipity, and Mitra are all good options; for cycles and bikes, Kinisi is a reliable local resource.
Details follow in your joining email once your place is confirmed.

Meet Your Guides
Co-founder of Purnam, Divyanshi studied at the University of Oxford and was drawn to Sri Aurobindo’s integral spirituality. She has developed the curriculum for over 60 courses at Purnam and personally trained more than 40 facilitators, creating and guiding transformational learning programmes that help seekers integrate spiritual practice into daily life.
An educator, researcher, and facilitator at Savitri Bhavan in Auroville, Neel designs and leads the programme day to day. His work spans experiential learning, curriculum design, and facilitation across India, Europe, and the United States, working at the intersection of integral education, place-based learning, and community-building.
Throughout the three days, participants meet senior Aurovilians whose lives embody the vision and the practice of Karmayoga — among them Manoj, B, Abha, Natasha, and Deven, along with the gardeners, farmers, and unit-holders who host our visits.

Frequently Asked Questions
I don't have my own transport or can't ride a cycle/bike. Can I still participate?
You’ll need a way to move between venues across Auroville. The days include visits to gardens, units, and the Solar Kitchen. A cycle, scooter, or bike works best; Kinisi is a reliable local resource for rentals. If mobility is a genuine concern, write to us and we’ll see what’s possible.
Do I need prior knowledge of Sri Aurobindo, The Mother, or Auroville?
None at all. The programme is designed as a doorway. We begin with the founding texts themselves and explore them together. All that’s needed is sincerity and curiosity.
Is the programme physically demanding?
Moderately. Each day includes a few hours of hands-on Karmayoga — service in the gardens, the Solar Kitchen, or Eco-Service — plus practices like Awareness Through the Body. It’s work, but it’s held gently, and nothing requires special fitness.
Is this a retreat, a course, or volunteering?
A bit of each, and not quite any of them. It’s an experiential introduction to Auroville — part learning (contemplations on the founding texts, encounters with senior Aurovilians), part service (daily hands-on Karmayoga), and part reflection (circles, practices, and quiet time to integrate). The three days move from the Vision, into the Work, and finally to you and your offering.
What happens after I register?
You’ll receive a confirmation, followed by a joining email with preparation notes, venue details, accommodation and transport suggestions, and everything you need for day one. Places are limited to about 24, so early registration is encouraged.
If anything is unclear before then, write to karmayoga@purnamcommunity.in.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
As places are limited and all arrangements are made in advance, fees are non-refundable. If a genuine emergency prevents you from coming, write to us and we’ll do our best to find a fair way forward.
I'm not sure which fee category applies to me. What should I do?
Your category is verified at registration, so it’s worth being sure before you sign up.
The Newcomer/Aurovilian rate (₹3,000) requires a valid @auroville.org.in email address, and the Registered Volunteer rate (₹5,000) requires a valid volunteer ID card, which you’ll upload with the form. If you don’t hold either, the Guest rate (₹8,000) applies.
Still unsure — for instance, if your volunteer ID has expired or your Newcomer process is underway? Write to us at before registering, and we’ll confirm your category.
Can I pay through Auroville Financial Service?
Yes, in the registration form, simply choose Financial Service under Payment Method. Transfer instructions will follow once you submit the form.
What should I bring and wear?
Bring a water bottle, a cap, and a journal and pen. Wear loose, comfortable clothing — Auroville is warm, so choose light, breathable fabrics like cotton that keep you cool through the day.
What is Purnam Community, where is it based, and when was it founded?
Purnam Community is a transformative learning centre founded by Divyanshi Chugh and Manoj Pavithran.
It is based in Auroville (near Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu) — the world’s first international city dedicated to Karmayoga and the ideal of human unity — and is an officially recognised unit of the Auroville Foundation, an autonomous body under the Government of India.
Rooted in the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, we guide seekers through practical spirituality — offering experiential workshops, courses, and coaching that help them connect with their soul and its purpose, and come alive in their full potential as Karmayogis who embrace both the material and the spiritual.
With roots tracing back to 2012, Purnam has evolved into a dynamic learning ecosystem that brings together like-hearted seekers. Our mission is to train 50,000 Karmayogis who will carry the living spirit of India into the world.
